Him (2025) review

Young quarterback Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers), who grew up idolizing eight-time champion Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), wants to play in The League, so when White invites him to his remote compound for a week-long workout session, he seizes the opportunity ... and the training methods he undergoes are exceptionally grueling and involve frequent "mystery injections."  With Jordan Peele as a producer, this is essentially a remix of Get Out that tries to be a send-up of those various "health regimens" made for athletes (such as Tom Brady's "TB12 Method"), but the production team spent more time paying attention to the set design and outfits - the work of NY-based artist Matthew Barney is a clear influence - than to the characters.  Tipping thinks that if he rams the cameras in everyone's faces - and includes several "hallucination" sequences - that will make it an "intense experience," except he's not Oliver Stone and this quasi-horror movie is painfully hollow.
