A Big Bold Beautiful Journey

Director: Kogonada
Year Released: 2025
Rating: 1.0

In order to attend a wedding, David (Colin Farrell) has to rent a car (a '94 Saturn!) with a special GPS system (voiced by Jodie Turner-Smith) - since his own automobile has a parking boot on it - and while there he meets Sarah (Margot Robbie); once the ceremony is over, they both leave, but the GPS directs them to spend more time together, and at various "stops" on the way back home they relive past memories.  Based on the title, it believes itself to be an "extraordinary adventure" but it lacks a strong vision and its screenplay is trying to be this "psychological piece" about the way unresolved traumas (David being rejected by the girl he's enamored with in high school, Sarah regretting not visiting her dying mother in the hospital, etc.) "revisit" themselves in new relationships ... except even that's an oversimplified view of how personal connections are made.  This would have been a bigger flop than it already is without the star power of Farrell and Robbie in there to keep it mildly engaging ... although it's hard to accept these two exceptionally attractive and charismatic individuals would be in this predicament at all (Colin playing "self-pitying" isn't what he's best at).
